This is the perfect comfort food for these lovely wintery days. I love the perfect crispiness of the bread and the hot steaming patty just waiting to fall apart in my mouth. Its hearty, its fresh, its……mmmdelicious! I’m currently eating it and typing up this post while watching Captain America. I know I’m a little behind the curb but I just never got around to watching it during semester. Anyway I better stop before I start rambling, here’s the burger, hope you enjoy!


Prep time: 40 mins

Cooking time: 15 mins

makes: 8-10


for the patty

  • 600grm minced beef
  • 2 medium sized carrots, very finely diced
  • 1 potato, very finely diced
  • 3 tablespoons panko breadcrumbs
  • half an onion, very finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 clove garlic, very finely diced

for the rest of the burger

  • avocado
  • lettuce
  • tomato, sliced
  • gerkins, sliced
  • cucumber, sliced
  • beetroot, sliced
  • barbecue sauce
  • 1 egg per burger
  • bread rolls, 1 per burger


  1. mix together the minced beef, carrot, potato, salt breadcrumbs, onion, salt and garlic
  2. shape into a patty, with a diameter of 10-12cm depending on your bun size, and 1-1.5cm thickness
  3. In a frying pan, add oil, and and fry each patty for 4-8 minutes per side, remove and let it drain on a paper towel
  4. Cut the bread roll in half and slightly toast them so they golden brown and delicious
  5. Assemble the burger, adding the avocado as a base (or mayonnaise or butter if you don’t like avocado) this will keep the moisture within the bun stopping it from getting soggy, add the lettuce, tomato, gerkins, beetroot and cucumber, add the patty, egg, and sauce.
  6. Join the two bun halves together and enjoy!
